Golden Triangle
Il Triangolo d'Oro è una delle ultime frontiere del pianeta. E' la regione dove si incontrano Myanmar, Laos, Thailandia e Yunnan (Cina). Malgrado la sua vicinanza a centri "civilizzati" anche importanti, l'autorità dei vari governi è molto molto lontana. Ultimamente la produzione e il commercio di oppio sono diminuiti (per motivi politici), ma rimane sempre una zona dove le varie etnie hanno le loro milizie e dettano legge (specie in Birmania).
Sono proprio le etnie a rendere il Triangolo d'Oro un posto affascinante:
denominate localmente "tribù delle montagne" sono diversi
gruppi seminomadi stabilitisi nelle zone non occupate dagli abitanti originari,
in pratica in montagna dove la vita è più difficile. Si crede
che siano migrati dal Tibet circa 200 anni fa, ma la sola cosa sicura è
che ciascuno di essi ha la propria identità: si tratta degli AKHA,
dei KEREN, dei HMONG (=Miao=Meo), degli YAO per citare solo i principali.
Sono popolazioni dalle credenze e tradizioni particolarissime, come si vede
anche dal loro abbigliamento e dai loro gioielli: visitare i loro villaggi
è un po' come fare un tuffo nel tempo!
The Golden Triangle is one of the last frontiers of the planet. It is the region where Myanmar, Thailand, Laos and Yunnan (China) meet. Even though it is not far from "civilized" centers, the authorithy of the various governments is notable for its absence. Lately the production and trade of opium is less rampant (thanks to political choices), but it is still an area where the various ethnies maintain their armies and indeed rule (especially in Burma).
But the Golden Triangle is interesting just because of its ethnies: locally called "Hill Tribes", they actually are different semi-nomadic groups who migrated to the mountains left alone by the original dwellers, because of the harshness of life. It is believed that they came from Tibet some 200 years ago: only sure thing is that they belong to their own tribe, the AKHA, the KEREN, the HMONG(=Meo=Miao), the YAO, to mention just the most known.
They are people whose traditions and habits are most peculiar, as can be seen from their gears and jewels: to visit their villages is like diving into TIME !
